I would like to share with you one of my favorite places Coney Island, NY. It’s about a 40 minute subway ride from Midtown Manhattan. There’s a beach, boardwalk, iconic thrill rides and the place is filled with so much history and wonder it’s magical.
Mermaid Parade
This parade is held every year to celebrate the arrival of summer. It’s filled with color, costumes and free spirts. I attended the parade once in 2011 and it was an absolute spectacle.
Fireworks
There are free firework every Friday during the summer. Unfortunately, I have never attend a show but it is on my bucket list of things to do. I hear it’s a good show and the best views are for the Wonder Wheel.
Amusement Parks
Luna Park and Deno’s Wonder Wheel Amusement Park are both fantastic places. They have a lot of fun iconic rides like the Cyclone roller coaster and the Wonder Wheel. There is also a minor league baseball field where the Cyclones play near by.
Beaches and Boardwalk
Sometimes I forget that New York City has beaches. This one is my favorite with its 3 mile long board walk and endless entertainment.
Nathan’s Hot Dog
The Original Nathan’s is located on Coney Island. They host the hot dog eating contest every year here on the 4th of July.
Sideshow
As crazy as it may sound Coney Island has one of the last existing Freak shows. I didn’t know what to expect going in but let’s just say the show was better than expected and I highly recommend it.
Coney Island Brewery
The last place I will mention is the Coney Island Brewery. It is located outside baseball stadium where the Cyclones play. I suggest you try their local craft beer, play some games and perhaps meet a new friend or two.
