Becoming: Book Review

Politics aside, I saw the reviews on Michelle Obama’s book ‘Becoming’ and wanted to check it out. The book is about her life, a coming of age story from humble beginnings to First Lady of the United States.

I found her tales of childhood sweet and heart warming for she is a good story teller. Her pursuit of education in a time and place where influence could have sent her in any direction is powerful stuff. She is a graduate of Princeton and Harvard Law, a lawyer, a wife, a mother and a pioneer.

Becoming is not about politics so what ever your views are you can put your guard down. This is the story of Michelle. The book taught me so much about life inside the White House. Did you know they pay for their own food and toilet paper.

Becoming the First Black Family in the White House is a story of its own but I will leave that to Michelle to tell. Pick up her audiobook and see what it’s like becoming Michelle Obama.

I enjoyed the book too – but I wish she would have written more about her university days at Harvard and Princeton – it seemed like that was only a couple of pages and the first third of the book about her childhood, which could have been shortened a bit to make it more balanced.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I laughed, and I cried … and I learned.
