Book Review for The Last Black Unicorn

Last month I finished The Last Black Unicorn audiobook by Tiffany Haddish. You may know her from the movie Girls Trip. My friend got the book for Christmas and since I had a few extra audiobook credits, I decided to get the book too.

I am a member of audible. I get one book credit a month for $15.98. I love reading but I am really enjoying audiobooks. I’ve been a member for almost 3 years now. I find it easier to get through an audiobook. I can wash dishes, workout, and commute while enjoying a good “read”.

Back to the review:

Right off the bat I was laughing my ass off. Tiffany is funny. She is open and vulnerable. She spoke about her life growing up in foster care, her relationships (spoiler alert: she has horrible taste in men), career, personal life and it’s all intriguing. I am glad she wrote the book and it was a blast listening to her voice as she told her story.

When she spoke about her ex husband I was so blown away by the story I had to google him because I had to see his face. I recommend this book and I look forward to seeing more of Tiffany Haddish in movies, books and maybe a comedy special for Netflix or HBO.

MoviePass Newbie

I am a newbie to MoviePass, a movie theater subscription for less than $10 a month. This thing has been burning a hole in my pocket ever since it arrived in the mail.

To use your MoviePass, go to your favorite theater. Pull up the app and select your show and showtime. From there go to the front desk select your movie and pay using your MoviePass card by swiping it like a credit card. (There is a MasterCard logo on it like a credit card.) They print your receipt and ticket and you go and enjoy your show.

Here are my first movie watches.

Insidious: The Last Key

I love scary movies. I have been a fan of the Insidious films but I think The Last Key is my favorite. It’s rare that a sequel turns out to be better than the original, especially for me. It gets two thumbs up for making me jump out of my seat more times than I can count.

I heard a lot of negative reviews about this movie so I didn’t go in with high expectations but I liked the story. It really freaked me out.

Den ofThieves

This movie gave me anxiety. I was on the edge of my seat, worried about the execution of the robbery. The movie was good and action packed. I recommend you take your man, especially if he went with you to see Pitch Perfect Part 3 because my hubby is still talking about how much he enjoyed this flick.

12 Strong *World Premiere*

Last week I got my hands on tickets to the World Premiere of 12 Strong. This movie is produced by Jerrry Bruckheimer, starring Chris Hemsworth (Thor) and Micheal Pena (Ant Man). It is an America war story based on the true story and book Horse Soldiers. It follows the first U.S. foot soldiers to retaliate after the 9/11 World Trade Center attacks.

I used my favorite ticket hookup 1iota to get my tickets. I have been to sneak peeks of movies but this was my first movie premiere. I didn’t know what to expect but the dress code was upscale so I was hoping for a red carpet.

Red Carpet

There was a red carpet and Chris Hemsworth was on it and he looks better in person. The 12 Strong World Premiere was held in NYC at the Jazz at Lincoln Center it was a cold winter night but that didn’t affect the red carpet because it was inside the theater that is above the Time Warner mall.I hesitated to take a picture until I was too far away and going up a flight of stairs but you can see the stars here

Movie Review

I enjoyed this movie. It’s a great American War story. I am an easy crier but was able to keep it together until the end. There was plenty of action and heart warming moments to balance the film. The best part was getting to applaud the actors, real life heroes and directors. Watching with them and knowing they could hear your applause for the film was a nice feeling.

Great times in N.Y.C.

Questions Asked Of Me:

1. If you could have dinner with three people (living or dead), who would they be?

Jesus, would be my first pick. How awesome would that be. I love Jesus!

Now That the Holidays are Over

Happy 2018!!!

The holidays have come to an end January 6 was Three Kings Day and that marked the end of the holiday season for me. My father always made this a special holiday in our home, he even gave it a special name ‘Little Christmas’. On this day, there was always a $100 bill hidden in the Christmas tree for us in envelopes marked with our names. It was fun to search for our gift that the 3 Kings left for us. I would then spend my money buying clothes and Lisa Frank stuff.

Now that the holidays are over I am “really” ready to start my New Year’s resolutions and try new things. Here are a few posts to looks forward to in 2018.

Dry January

I like to go Dry for January #dryjanuary. No drinking alchohol during the month of January. I started late on this but that’s no reason to sweep this challenge under the rug. I hope to save money and be more productive. This is a win win, plus after the holidays which includes my birthday my liver needs a break. I can’t wait to share how I did.

Book Reviews

I have lots of reading and audiobooks I’m excited to get into. I will hopefully review 1 or 2 books a month. I am a fan of self help and biography’s but will occasionally dip into the non fiction category. Reading has always been fun for me, ever since my Babysitter’s Club membership back in the early 90’s.

Movie Reviews

The other day my Uber driver told me about MoviePass. It’s a subscription pass to see one 2D movie a day at participating movie theaters for less than $10 a month. This sounds unreal to me but, he swore by it and claimed to use it often. I am excited to receive my MoviePass in the mail so I can get started. I will review the MoviePass experience and all of the wonderful movies coming out in 2018.

Eyebrows are all the rage these days. Unfortunately, I suffer from over plucking and bad eyebrow genes. I am hoping microblading is everything it’s cracked up to be. I will share with you what to expect and the results.

That should keep me busy, stay tuned and don’t forget to take down you Christmas decorations.

New Year’s Resolutions 2018 Edition

I’m always excited to start a new year. I try to make a few resolutions to keep motivated. As I start the year off feeling good I want to challenge myself to be a better human, wife, daughter, sister and friend.

Here are my resolutions in no particular order.

Blog More

I did something I’ve always wanted to do in 2017. I started a blog. It feels so good to write. It’s a passion for me. I’m no expert at it. I’m kind of all over the place but one day I dream of writing a book, and this blog is going to get me ready for that major goal one day.

When I first started I was on fire and writing daily. Then it went down to weekly and now it’s so sporadic there is no consistency. I want to get back on the weekly train. So here is to more posts and adventures!

Cook More

I want to be a better wife and cook for my husband. He is a God send because he loves to cook and insists on cooking our every meal.

I need to give him a break. I want to pull my weight in the kitchen whether he likes it or not.

My brother and I had a talk over the summer and he reminded me that I am capable of doing anything. I am going to use that as my motivation to do something to make him proud. I’m finally going to college!

You never know who you will inspire so always remind people of their worth and their greatness.

Lose Weight, Feel Great

I want to lose about 15 pounds. I want to be in my best state physically and mentally. I want to be tone and I want to eat things that fuel my body and don’t make me feel sluggish.

I hope for adventure, travel and crossing things off my bucket list.

Family and Friends

I want to spend more quality time with my family and friends. That means I will sacrifice lazy couch days to go sit on your couch with you or maybe adventure awaits us in a hike, bike ride or movie.

Happy New Year!

Christmas is Here Again

This is a P. S. A. We are less than a week away from Christmas and I hope you have found some holiday cheer, because Christmas is here again. It’s time to kick it into high gear. If you haven’t already, it’s time to shop for or create your gifts, then wrap them with care. Gift giving is a magical tradition that should be done with love.

Stay blessed and Merry Christmas!!

Battle of the Bulge Holiday Edition

Here we are in mid December, and I like most have failed at my weight loss goals for the year. I usually start off strong only to slip back into my lazy routine by January’s end. I really do want to lose a few pounds and keep it off, I am just lacking the motivation. I will enjoy the holidays and all the food that comes with it but I will begin exercising today. No need to wait until the new year to get started. Here are a few things you can do to kick off your weight loss goals now.

Go to the gym! Too cold to leave the house, don’t have a gym? Workout from home. Dust off your workout videos and whatever equipment you may have lying around and use it. Try to do about 30 minutes of excercise or weightlifting 3 times a week. If you don’t have videos or weights. Search for 30 minute videos with no equitment on You Tube.

Take a walk around the neighborhood and check out the lights. Go for a run. Play with the kids or the dogs in the snow. Enjoy the outdoors and do it with family or friends (it’s better for the Christmas cheer). Or you can do something genorous like shovel the sidewalk for the elderly couple in your neighborhood.

It’s not January so don’t deny yourself. Have a cookie or two, just not ten. The holidays are about eating tasty foods with good company. It’s all apart of the magic. Just be aware of how much you have eaten, you don’t want to over do it and give yourself a belly ache.

Enjoy your 2017 holidays!!!

Two Days in Washington D.C. (part 2)

Washington D.C. is a great place to visit. We went to the Smithsonian Zoo, Ford’s Theater, lunch at Old Ebbit Grill, and a walk around the Capitol building. It was a fun day filled with excitement and experiences I will never forget.

Smithsonian National Zoo

The zoo was about a 20 minute drive from the museums and monuments. It is well worth the trip. It is free to enter and they have some of the best animals in the world. They have pandas, sloths, apes and many more. I’ve been to zoos where the animals look miserable but the animals here were seemingly happy. I turned into a child when I saw a Panda. They have Panda Cam and you can watch the pandas anytime, if you’d like a dose of cuteness. taking a panda nap

Ford’s Theater

Entry is free but space is limited. For $3 you can reserve a ticket to ensure your entry and avoid long lines. This is the theater President Lincoln was shot in. They have preserved things from the president and the shooting inside.bodyguard weaponsPresident Lincoln’s signature on a quilt Presidential Chinagun used to kill the president

House Where Lincoln Died

Across the street from the Ford’s Theater is the house where Lincoln died. Using the ticket from the theater you can enter into this home and see the bed that he lied on when he died. I didn’t even know this place still existed. There is also a museum inside tracing the steps after his death. This was my favorite museum.House Where Lincoln Diedbooks written on President Abraham Lincoln

Old Ebbit Grill

We had lunch at the old saloon and it was amazing. We saw it as we were walking from the White House and didn’t think it was for us because it seemed pricy and we didn’t bring anything nice to wear. After hearing good reviews and discovering they didn’t have a dress code we went for it.

We were told the oysters and Maryland crap cakes where to die for, and they were. We complimented our food with a 2014 bottle of Saviogon Blanc and we weren’t disappointed. The bill with tip for 4 people was high ($280) but it was a divine and unforgettable lunch with family.Lobster Sheppard’s pieoyster shooters

United States Capitol

After lunch we took a long walk to the United States Capitol. It felt good to walk lunch off. Along the 1.7 mile walk we passed some important buildings and offices. The Capitol was huge. We got there just as it closed and the sun was setting. It was a great trip. The first of many!F.B.I.U.S. Capitolsunset view from U.S. Capitol
